The chip can handle a subset of the Java byte code. Since, the chip does not interpret the instructions, Java programs run much faster than on software implemented virtual machines. For instructions that can not be handled using dedicated hardware, the chip provides a simple interface to access all internal registers, the stack and the local variables.
