Miracle Whip extends the Croc SoC with hardware acceleration for the post-quantum signature scheme MAYO, a multivariate signature scheme based on Oil-and-Vinegar maps. The chip integrates an Ibex RISC-V core, on-chip SRAM, standard peripherals, and dedicated accelerator blocks for the MAYO datapath, including AES, Gaussian elimination, and SHAKE. The scalable accelerator architecture was developed by Matthias Fischer with a focus onreducing the memory footprint and size targetting embedded applications, with Tim Wyss contributing AES and Gaussian elimination, and Cyrill Rüttimann contributing SHAKE and Croc integration
The name Miracle Whip refers both to the mayonnaise substitute and to MAYO's own whipping construction, which turns an Oil-and-Vinegar map into a larger map suitable for compact post-quantum signatures.
This chip is sort of part of the 2026 edition of the VLSI Design course at ETH Zurich.
