The name stands for Widely Tunable Filter. Any other connections are purely coincidental. As the name suggests, the chip realizes a tunable baseband filter for a software defined radio. The cutoff frequency can be tuned by more than a factor 300 from 115 kHz up to 40 MHz with a frequency resolution below 3%. This makes the filter suitable for any wireless communication standard with RF signal bandwidths up to 80 MHz, i.e. from GSM to LTE advanced, WiMAX and WLAN.
