Sandwich is a transceiver for serial communication through optical fibres. The IC is designed for usage with the PIN photodiode PIN-ULM-14-TT_V03 at the receiver and the laser diode VCSEL-ULM850-05-1x1chip-LCDC-V03 at the transmitter. Data must be 8B10B (or similar) encoded for correct operation. Data rates in the range 100 megabits per second up to 1 gigabit per second are supported. Transmitter and receiver may be used independently, i.e. unused components may be switched off to save power. The data to transmit is fed to the chip through LVDS. The received data gets output of the chip by a LVDS transmitter.
The IC is called Sandwich because the bare dies of the photodiode and laserdiode will be placed on top of the chip.
