In this project a system proposed by the students has been realized. The ASIC named BOCELLI is a digital audio amplifier. Instead by knobs and switches it is controlled from a personal computer via a standard RS232 link. Seven two-channel biquads realized as digital IIR filters with programmable coefficients allow flexible overall filter adjustments under software control. The chip provides digital balance and volume control. Since dynamics is lowered by digital attenuatuion analog volume control with an external attenuator chip is supported too. Two digital I2S input sources are selectable. The output signal is available both as I2S digital data stream and over a directly connected external audio D/A converter as analog high-quality signal. Control signals for AES/EBU or SPD/IF converters are available too. The datapath works with 16 to 20 bits audio input. To guarantee full quality internal word widths are optimized to more than 20 bits where necessary.
